One-to-one SAT Math tutoring
As your SAT Math tutor, I teach every lesson myself. I plan each one around your test date and your practice results, and I review your work between lessons.
Students at any level may apply, including first-time test takers.
Who this suits
This suits you if:
- You have a test date in mind and want a clear plan.
- Your practice scores have stopped moving.
- You understand a solution when you read it, but cannot find the method on your own.
- You will practice between lessons.
This is not for you if:
- You want a promised score. I cannot give one.
- You need help with Reading and Writing. I teach Math only.
How it starts
Apply. Tell me your test date, your current score if you have one, and what feels hardest.
I reply. I read your application and reply by email with my recommendation and the rate.
First lesson. You pay for the first lesson before it takes place. We work through questions together, and I look at how you choose a method and where you slow down.
Your plan. If you decide to continue, I send a written plan with your priorities and practice routine, and you pay for the plan in full.
Early on, I assign a full practice test in Bluebook, so we both see where you stand.
What a lesson looks like
- We review the mistakes from your last practice.
- I teach one skill by working through questions with you.
- You try a short timed set.
- I set your practice for next time.
Lessons are 55 minutes, live on Zoom. I write by hand on an iPad, so you see each step as I work. Lessons are not recorded.
Algebra or Desmos
The test has a built-in Desmos calculator. Some questions are quicker by hand, and some are quicker on the graph. Many students lean on one method. I teach both, and you learn to decide in a few seconds.
Often quicker by algebra
Questions about the sum or product of roots, and questions where a variable stays in the answer.
Often quicker on Desmos
Intersections to decimal places, systems with awkward numbers, and checking a solution.
Practice between lessons
I set an amount of practice that suits you, enough to make steady progress without overloading you. I write original questions for the skills you need. For full timed tests, I assign the practice tests in Bluebook by test number, and you take them there.
I review your work and label each mistake by type: content, method, algebra, misreading or time. After a few weeks, you can see which type keeps coming back, and we work on that.
Your lesson notes are saved as PDFs. You can open them at any time, including after your lessons end.
If your test date is close
If your test is only a few weeks away, I can plan an intensive program with more frequent lessons. Tell me your test date when you apply, and I will tell you honestly what is realistic in the time you have.
For parents
When you decide to continue, I send you a written plan. After that, I send short updates by email, as a message or a PDF summary. You are welcome to write to me with questions about the plan.
Scheduling and policies
- We agree on lesson times after you decide to start.
- How often we meet depends on your plan, usually weekly, with extra lessons near the test date.
- You can reschedule a lesson with 24 hours' notice.
- A lesson missed or cancelled with less notice is charged in full.
- Payments are not refundable.
Common questions
How many lessons will I need?
It depends on your starting point, your test date and how much you practice. After the first lesson, I give you an honest estimate.
Can I try one lesson first?
Yes. You pay for the first lesson, and afterward you decide whether to continue.
What do I need for lessons?
A computer with Zoom. For full practice tests, you also need Bluebook installed.
Do you use College Board practice tests?
For full timed tests, I assign the tests in Bluebook by number. For everything else, I write my own questions.
Do you guarantee a score?
No. I cannot promise a score. I promise careful teaching, regular feedback and a clear plan.
What do lessons cost?
The rate depends on your plan, so I quote it privately by email after I read your application. You pay for the first lesson before it takes place. If you continue, you pay for the plan in full.
Tell me your test date and what feels hardest.
I read each application myself and reply personally.
